I get the coffee started, (Whole Bean, Fair Trade medium/dark roast).
I have a rule, after listening to Brendon Buchard, that I do not turn on, (or look at), any electronic devices for the first and last 60 minutes of my day. So now my day begins with meditation. I started it 6 months ago, to work on my mindfulness- to be more present in the moment. If I start my day with reflection, I capture more dream sequences, pulled from my unconscious brain regions. During the meditation, I also do a full-body scan, (preventative medical practice)? I track my current health issues and record them on a body drawing after I am done. This way during my annual visit with my doctor, I can remember what I went through during the year.
Meditating has also helped me be more intentional.
Then I eat a healthy breakfast, (do Frosted Flakes count?) and read a chapter in my latest book assignment.
Only now, after an hour has passed, do I quickly check my emails, to see if anything is important and urgent. If not, I wait until later to follow up on them.
My next move is to do my daily exercises (which I now vary between three different sequences), followed up by walking 4- 6 miles. In nicer weather, I will bike 25 miles, every 3rd day.
After a quick shower and more coffee, I am ready to tackle my work life. With this routine, my self component is frontloaded each day. Because when my family wakes up, or I fire up the laptop to face customers, it is all about them. I can be the Servant Leader I want to be because I have taken care of my needs already. The morning is selfishly mine.
What is your morning routine?
