Parent’s Day 2018
I am blessed to still have both of my parents alive and close to me. They have always given me so much love and guidance over the years. They are adopted parents for many of our friends because of the example they set and the relationships they built. My wife and I were fortunate to be parents, and I hope we are perceived as good parents also. So, on this day I resurrected a poem I wrote from 2008 to my family. Both our children have married beautiful partners since this was written. I share this with you as a warm hug on this day as we celebrate a special role many of us play.
Thanks Mom and Dad, I love you.
THE BEST FAMILY EVER 5/2008
I was fortunate enough to grow up in the best family ever-
We could always count on my father to provide a sense of security and guidance
My Mother was the comfort, the hugs, and the caregiver
My Brother embodies those characteristics in a best friend, like loyalty, honesty, and support
My Sister feels 100% of everything, celebrating my highs, and empathizing with my lows
My Brothers and Sisters from marriage fit into this family fabric as though they were always part of it
The Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Grandparents are extensions of these same positives
My best friends have always been, and still are my family
Now I am fortunate enough now to have my own family
I have a Wife that believes in me, supports me unconditionally, and pushes my beliefs
My Son is at ease with the world, wise beyond his years, and has a great sense of humor
My daughter lives life at full speed, without fear, yet takes time to support the underdog
So, you see how fortunate I have been living in this “fairy tale” environment
It really is a simple formula to have a successful family
You need to openly show and share your love
Love will overcome all challenges, bad choices, or behavioral outbreaks
Everyone I have written about in this family has that ability and chooses to use it
I could not see me loving anyone more than my family
