Easter Transformations

Easter is a time of transformation. In some people’s minds, it is celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. For others, it is about spring, the Easter bunny, painted eggs, and candy. This is a small sampling of celebrations, yet it demonstrates our freedom to believe what we want. We should do this without judging other people’s choices, we all share this right to choose.

The egg and Jesus story are both symbols of transformation. As human beings, we are constantly transforming. How we transform is certainly influenced by our internal guidance system. That device helps us decide quickly on choices to make, things to say, and how to act. Its contents are truly unique as a combination of genetic makeup and the external influences we have been exposed to up to this point. We tend to choose a safer path if we have been exposed to a negative environment, hurtful people, or a lack of resources. This is especially true of those who experience this at a young age. Yet some decide to still make a choice to be positive, open, loving and trusting anyway, even when this choice may create an increased risk of getting hurt.

I found this old golden nugget from “Readings for Experiential Education” edited by Jim Schoel and Mike Stratton titled:

To Laugh is to Risk- Anonymous

To laugh is to risk appearing the fool,

To weep is to risk appearing sentimental,

To reach out to another is to risk involvement,

To expose your feelings is to risk exposing our true self,

To place your ideas and dreams before the crowd is to risk loss,

To love is to risk not being loved in return,

To live is to risk dying,

To hope is to risk despair,

To try at all is to risk failure,

But risk we must, because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.

The man or woman, who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, and is nothing.

I hope your transformation is a beautiful experience of love and growth. It will require some risk. You get to choose how and when. So, enjoy Easter the way you want to, but be aware that others have that same right.
